With one tweet WWE let the world know that they were done with Paul Heyman being in charge of RAW. Paul Heyman had been promoted to executive director of RAW in June 2019. That same month Eric Bischoff had been hired for the Smackdown job. Bischoff was fired months later on September. Heyman in the meantine received praises from wrestlers and fans.

However, with WWE ratings free falling week after week, and a chaotic locker room where there seems to be no direction and constant storyline changes happening even moments before it aired the situation made Vince McMahon want to make a change.

McMahon’s solution was to put Bruce Prichard who was hired to take over Bischoff’s job on Smackdown to be in charge of the creative teams of both shows.

It is an odd choice, as Prichard’s Smackdown story lines have not faired any better than Heyman’s, so I cannot see how this would make a difference. Both shows are struggling and Prichard is not known for innovative ideas that could spark a new life to the flagship show.

Will This Move Work?

Unfortunately, I am not optimistic about the move. If you look at the quality of WWE’s shows you can see that since October of 2019 Smackdown has been the worst of the three. Prichard has not focused on creating a superstar for the brand. While this could be said about RAW, at least Heyman took chances. There was a lot more under utilized talent being pushed on Raw than Smackdown. One example being Apollo Crews.

But there is nothing for us fans to do other than gripe online and wait for the chips to fall.

I predict Prichard will be out of this position soon as McMahon continues to scramble to find scapegoats for his dwindling ratings.
